Julie Barham is a ceramicist creating functional and sculptural pieces for the home and garden. Her work explores the versatility of clay, combining different making techniques, surface decoration and glazes to create pieces rich in colour, texture and character.

Working across stoneware, earthenware and terracotta, Julie uses both hand-building techniques and the potter’s wheel. Her current work explores the combination of stoneware glazes with coloured slips, creating a beautiful interplay between matt and glossy surfaces.

Julie draws much of her inspiration from the natural world, particularly plants, landscapes and the intricate forms of seedpods. She is equally fascinated by pattern and form in architecture, from historic cathedrals to contemporary buildings.
Bold colour and pattern are also central to her work, with the vibrant textiles and designs of the 1950s and 60s providing a particular source of inspiration.
We have a selection of Julie's ceramics in the gallery.
