Nicole Stevenson | Painter

Nicole Stevenson is a painter whose work is inspired by the coastline - the shifting edges of land where communities have long lived in rhythm with the sea. Her recurring house motif represents ideas of home, belonging, and the creative environments people build for themselves. It also reflects a way of living connected to craft and resourcefulness - values that continue to resonate as we relearn the skills of recycling and repurposing.

Nicole’s paintings combine collage and acrylic on wooden panels, layered to create depth and a sense of time passing. She pieces together fragments of paint, texture, and printed papers much like Japanese boro textiles or freeform patchwork, building compositions that feel both familiar and evolving.

Her process begins outdoors, sketching and working with water-based media in the coastal places that inspire her. Back in the studio, she develops these studies into finished works through an intuitive, layered approach that balances structure with spontaneity.

Nicole holds a BA (Hons) in Drawing and Painting from Edinburgh College of Art and a PGCE from The Bolton Institute, Manchester.
