Sarah Anderson | Landscape Artist

Sarah Anderson | Landscape Artist

Sarah was raised in Galloway in south-west Scotland, growing up surrounded by peaceful woodland, rugged moorland, and a beautiful coastline. She graduated from Edinburgh University with an MA (Hons) in Fine Art in 1999. A highly successful degree show inspired her to commit fully to painting, and she now works primarily from a studio in her home.

Sarah’s work is inspired by the magnificent Scottish landscape, particularly the west coast. Recurring themes reflect the dramatic effects of weather on mountains and shorelines, trees, and her favourite place of all, Edinburgh.

Changing light and atmospheric conditions provide endless ideas, which she seeks to capture in paint. Her palette is strongly coloured with a wide tonal range, working principally in oils. The physical act of painting is central to her practice, with the paint surface playing a prominent role as she strives for simplicity of form and overall unity. Her recent paintings aim to envelop the viewer in the prevailing atmosphere.
