Each plaque begins as a hand-rolled sheet of clay, its image drawn and poetry stamped before drying flat between plasterboards. Once biscuit fired, underglaze is added to bring out the lines, textures, and colour, and the piece is then high-fired to 1240°C for strength and finish. Formed slowly by hand using the ancient pinch pot technique, each Earth Bowl begins as a simple ball of clay shaped in the palm. Once partially dried, poetry is hand-stamped into the surface before glazing and raku firing outdoors, where flame and smoke leave their distinctive traces.
