Alan Richmond is a self-taught painter based in the Scottish Borders, where he has developed a distinctive semi-abstract practice from his studio at WASPS Selkirk. Inspired by the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, his work draws on the textures of weathered boats and abandoned buildings to create atmospheric landscapes that are evocative rather than literal. Through layers of acrylic, scraping, and rich surface texture, Richmond’s paintings invite viewers to pause, interpret, and uncover their own sense of place within the work.
